Platform Compatibility

PICOwatt® Smart Plug, Version 1

New Features

This version adds support for a single USB Ethernet Adapter. The adapter connects to the USB Standard A port of your PICOwatt® and provides an RJ-45 connector that supports 10/100BASE-T networking.

This version adds functionality to allow users to set the PICOwatt® system clock. See the Setup->Administration->System Time page for more details.

Modified Features

This version changes the functionality of the per minute energy usage data sample storage. Previous versions store energy usage data on a per minute basis. This version stores energy usage data on a per second basis and allows users to enter how many seconds elapse between energy data samples that are stored in the Per Second Energy Usage. The number of seconds entered can range from 1 second (one energy data sample every second) to 3600 seconds (one energy data sample every hour). The Per Second Energy Usage sample data buffer provides the total Kilowatt Hours consumed by the load attached to the Device Outlet for each sample period for a total of 129,600 samples. The Per Second Energy Usage sample data buffer is a circular buffer and only the past 129,600 samples are maintained internally. Note that the energy usage is provided in a format that can be downloaded and opened with standard spreadsheet tools. See the Energy Usage->Download page to adjust how many seconds elapse between energy data samples.

Known Issues

This is a comprehensive update, and, depending on the current version of software on your PICOwatt®, the upgrade could take 10-15 minutes. Note also that depending on the current version of software on your PICOwatt®, the delay time display on the update status page may expire prior to the update process finishing. Please observe the unit lights for the update process to finish, the unit to reboot, and then attempt to connect to your PICOwatt® with your favorite web browser. Powering off, or resetting your PICOwatt® before the update process finishes will damage your unit.

This update introduces a number of new configuration options, and therefore any old network configuration files, picowatt_network_setup.txt, previously created cannot be used with this version of the software. Please create a new network configuration file using the network setup utility which can be accessed on our support site here. Newly created setup files are backwards compatible.
